My Mom tribe is literally far and wide. I am so thrilled to introduce you to someone who has literally seen my dark skies, and my most blessed moments. She is the true definition of a friend you want for a lifetime. Someone who is very close to my heart, even though I get to see her maybe once a year. She is someone, who while giving me tough love, always points me in the direction of positivity. Lacey’s beauty for life shines not only on the outside, but inside.
What is your favorite part of being a Mom?
Watching my children change every day! It’s such a joy to watch them walk, crawl, develop all the unique milestones that they have. To laugh for the first time, to smile in their sleep, to watch them dream. It’s all a blessing. They change and grow so quickly!
Did you have any difficult challenges you faced on your pregnancy journey?
We had two miscarriages before having our first daughter. While the news was not what we wanted to receive, we knew God had a plan and if we were destined to be parents, He would provide.
If so do you have any words of encouragement for mothers facing what you did?
Don’t give up! While trying to become parents is a difficult journey for some, know that everything happens for reason. It’s hard to watch your friends and family become pregnant; especially while you are trying and not succeeding. But hang in there, life has a funny way of working itself out!
How did you feel when you first found out you were pregnant?
Excited, nervous, scared, were we ready, what happens next…so many questions!
What is the best piece of advice you have for a new Mom about to give birth to their first child?
Just go with the flow! There will be times that you are so tired, so drained, questioning if you are doing everything perfectly for your child, being a good mother, doing everything correctly that they “say” you’re supposed to do with a newborn…But there is always a bright side at the end of the day, and that is that you are a mom! Remember, there is no such thing as a perfect mother. Do what works best for you and your family, and most importantly your baby! Everything will work out, your baby will be raised in a loving home with a loving family. And at the end of the day, that perfect face is all you need to know that you are doing the best job you can.
What is the biggest surprise about motherhood in your eyes?
the massive amount of diapers!!! And…
That people will question everything you do. You do what works for you. Everyone raises their child differently. Don’t let others put you down for doing something, letting your children have that certain snack, letting your children watch that certain show. What works best for your family, is all you need to do. Don’t let other parents bring down, they have the right to raise their children how they wish, and so do you 🙂
How do you handle discipline in your house?
A little bit of firmness, a little bit of love. I’m not afraid to tell my children “NO”. I’m not afraid to tell them that something is not OK. A slap on the wrist, a quick time out, that is all acceptable to me. They have to learn discipline, that they cannot get away with everything just because they’re cute, and that they cannot disrespect their elders.
What do you think of screen time? (iPads)
My daughter loves her iPad. It’s actually a saving grace for us on long car rides! However, it’s just not shows and movies. I’ve downloaded several educational games. Are so many educational apps for children right now, she is learning a lot!
Who is a Mom you most admire?
A Mom named Larissa. As her former babysitter, I watched her raise her children the way she did, and still does, and it taught me a lot about who I am as a mother now. The way they talk to their children, the way they teach them about life situations, the way they create an environment so their children are provided for, well-rounded, respectful; is the way I desired to be a mom. They have the whole parent thing figured out!! The way she lives at home; the tidiness of her house, everything is perfectly in place, she always has her stuff together, I admire her and I catch myself doing things she did and does every day!
